Lighting is one of the elements that transforms a home the most — and, at the same time, one of the most overlooked. Good light completely changes how a room feels: it makes it bigger, warmer and more welcoming. Here’s how to choose the perfect lighting for your home, room by room.

The three layers of light
A well-lit space combines three types of light:
- Ambient light — lights the whole room evenly
- Task light — for reading, cooking or applying make-up
- Accent light — highlights art, textures or charming corners
Colour temperature matters
Warm light (2,700–3,000K) brings comfort and is ideal for the living room and bedroom. Neutral light (4,000K) works in kitchens and bathrooms. Avoid mixing very different temperatures in the same room: it breaks the visual harmony.

Lighting room by room
- Living room — combine ceiling, floor and table lamps; warm, dimmable light
- Bedroom — soft, indirect light, wall or table lamps on both sides of the bed
- Kitchen — task lighting under the wall units and over the island
- Hallway — a good light sets the first impression of your home
