- Fabrics — linen and cotton (natural), or stain-resistant technical fabrics if you have kids or pets
- Filling — feather for a soft look, high-density foam for more firmness
- Removable covers — very practical for cleaning
- Colour — neutrals last longer; save the colour for cushions
