Sideboards and display cabinets in La Cala de Mijas: living room storage

A sideboard or display cabinet for your home in La Cala de Mijas can do more than fill an empty wall. Choose it around what you actually need to store: tableware, linen, books, paperwork or objects you would like to display. Start with that list, then compare shapes and finishes.

The photographs in this guide illustrate possible arrangements. They do not mean that every item or accessory shown belongs to a single furniture package.

Sideboard or display cabinet: start with the contents

A sideboard with doors and drawers provides storage for different-sized belongings as well as a useful surface. A display cabinet is an option when you want to see some of the contents, provided its internal layout accommodates your pieces. A combination of closed and open storage may suit you best.

Sort your belongings into three groups: things used every day, things brought out occasionally and objects you want to display. This helps you decide how many drawers, shelves or compartments you need. You do not have to fill every shelf immediately.

Measure your belongings as well as the room

The outside width of a cabinet does not tell you how much fits inside. Measure larger serving dishes, plates, albums or files and ask for the usable internal dimensions. Hinges, dividers and the thickness of the furniture itself reduce that space.

Check how the doors open and how far the drawers extend. If a sideboard sits beside the dining area, consider it with a chair pulled away from the table. Using one piece of furniture should not prevent you from using the other.

Keep storage close to where you use it

Everyday tableware belongs conveniently near the dining table; books or games may work better closer to the seating area. In a shared living-dining room, dividing storage between two positions can be more convenient than putting everything in one large unit.

Check routes to windows, doors and the terrace. Our small living-dining room layout guide helps you consider those routes before placing the furniture.

Bring finishes together without crowding the room

Look at the flooring, doors and furniture you plan to keep. Repeating one tone or texture can connect the pieces, while another finish adds contrast. Photographs taken in natural light help explain the room, but confirm finishes against available samples: a screen can change how a colour appears.

Include a display cabinet in your TV arrangement

The Display Living package combines a low furniture composition with a raised side display cabinet. It offers a starting point if you want storage and display space in the same part of the room. The television, lighting and decorative accessories shown are excluded.

If you are planning the whole wall, read our guide to choosing TV furniture as well. The dimensions, finishes and exact configuration need to be confirmed before ordering.
