Choosing curtains and cushions for a home in La Cala de Mijas is easier when you compare fabrics with what is already there: flooring, sofa, walls and light. A pattern that looks appealing on its own can feel too prominent beside a textured rug or headboard.
At MÁXIMO’s showroom you can see a textile display and different combinations of furniture and décor. The photographs in this guide show our shop in La Cala, offering a way to compare colours and materials together. Displays and available options may change.
Start with the window and how you use the room
Before choosing a colour, decide what you need: softer daylight, more privacy or less light while resting. These are different requirements. A sheer fabric and an opaque one behave differently, and the finished result also depends on the fitting and gaps around the window.
Take photographs in daylight and with the lamps on. Note whether the window opens inwards, whether there is a shutter box and which furniture stands nearby. At a terrace doorway, consider the route you use and the space needed to draw the curtains back. Avoid choosing a fitting system from an inspiration photo alone.
Find a colour that connects the pieces you are keeping
Choose a starting colour from your sofa, rug or another piece you enjoy. Repeat it in a cushion and try a quieter curtain fabric alongside it. Repeating a colour does not mean every fabric must match exactly: texture and different shades can give the arrangement variety.
If the room already contains several patterns, compare plain options first. If everything feels very similar, try introducing texture or a pattern through a smaller piece. A photograph of the whole room is more useful than a close-up of a single cushion.

Compare samples together and up close
When visiting our La Cala de Mijas showroom, bring photographs and, if you have one, a sample of the material you want to coordinate. Compare fabric beside the furniture finish, rather than only against a white wall. Ask which samples are available for the options you are considering.
Look at the drape, feel and transparency. Ask about composition, cleaning instructions and suitability for the intended use. Appearance alone does not establish resistance to sunlight or stains, or whether a fabric can be washed at home. Check those details for the particular option.

Prepare a short selection before deciding
- Photographs of the room under different lighting.
- Initial measurements and details of the window and its opening.
- The colours and pieces you want to keep.
- Two or three combinations you like, with a note about why.
- Your privacy, maintenance and everyday-use requirements.
